Before You Book
The things worth knowing first.
Nothing here is unusual for a boarding kennel, but it is all easier to sort out now than at the gate on a Friday afternoon.
Vaccinations and health
Every dog must be at least 4 months old, with vaccinations current for the whole of the planned stay.
Minimum C3 and Kennel Cough, C5 preferred. A dog vaccinated for the first time needs all vaccinations completed at least 14 days before arrival.
Worming and flea treatment need to be up to date. If fleas or worms are found they are treated straight away and the cost is added to the booking, currently $20 a treatment.
If your dog has been sick, injured or off colour in the months before the stay, tell us. It changes how closely we watch them.
Office hours, drop off and pick up
The office is open 8am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. Closed Sunday, with no calls taken that day.
Bookings can be made online at any time, including Sundays.
Outside office hours is at our discretion and a charge may apply.
Inspections are by appointment.
Food and bedding
Both are supplied. Every suite gets a trampoline style bed, with a vet bed added through the cooler months.
If you would rather send your own food, it needs to come in one bulk reusable container, clearly labelled with your dog’s name and the date it is for.
Label toys, bedding and collars too. Personal items are left at your own risk.
Play with other dogs
Dogs exercise outside in common areas with other dogs of a compatible temperament. That is how the day works here, and booking a stay means consenting to it.
Tell us at booking how your dog goes with people and with other dogs, including anything that has gone wrong before.
Aggression towards people or other animals is not tolerated, and you may be asked to collect your dog if it happens.
If your dog needs a vet
If it is not urgent we ring you first on the numbers you have left. If we cannot reach you we ring your nominated vet and act in your dog’s interest under the boarding terms.
If your vet is unreachable or more than half an hour away, your dog goes to Midwest Veterinary Clinic. In a genuine emergency, if time is critical, your dog goes to Midwest Veterinary Clinic straight away.
Vet bills are the owner’s. A transport fee of $50 plus time at the vet applies to any vet visit.
Medication
Medication must arrive in its original packaging with the vet’s instruction label on it.
Charged at $2 a day per medication per dose. Injections $5 a day.
Payment
Rates are charged per calendar day, whatever time your dog arrives or leaves.
Payment in full no later than the day of departure, including anything extra incurred.
Paying by bank transfer? The account is in Carol Bull’s name, not the business name.
Bookings over $1,000 take a 50% deposit at check in unless arranged with us beforehand.
Christmas and Easter bookings take a $50 per dog booking fee at the time of booking, and the stay is paid in full at check in.
Cancellations
Outside peak periods, refunds and transfers are at our discretion.
For peak periods, which are Christmas, Easter and school holidays, cancelling inside 30 days of check in forfeits what has been paid.
Cancelling a peak booking more than 30 days out is refunded in full less a $25 administration fee.
The $50 holiday booking fee is refundable and transferable up until 30 days before the stay. No refunds or credits for coming home early from a peak booking.
Barkavia can refuse admission to any dog, and every dog is boarded at its owner’s risk. The full boarding terms are signed when you book through the customer portal.
